UH arrives in New Orleans

The University of Hawaii has arrived in New Orleans for the AllState Sugar Bowl 2007.

Last I heard they are +7.5 vs Georgia.

I think one of the keys to the game will be if QB Colt Brennan can get time in the pocket to hit his receivers and does not have an "off" game. If he can get time, UH should be able to take advantage of the Georgia defensive backfield.

On the defensive side, UH will have to control the UG running game. It could be a long game if UG is able to get off and run over the UH defense.

Anyway, Good Luck to the Warriors and BELIEVE!

NFL Predictor Week 14 Early Update

Early updates posted for stats and predictions.

Recapping this past week got us another 10-6 record ATS.

Good Luck!

Best BS of the Week

From LSU, stating that they are "undefeated in regulation this season". Undefeated in regulation?!?

That's a good one... :-)

UH is the only undefeated team in the BCS. They are undefeated in regulation, in overtime, and in the whole darn game.

UH vs Georgia in the Sugar Bowl!

Zowie! What a game last night!

Talk about a nightmare way to start out a game AT HOME?!? Quick turnovers and short field scores by Washington gave them a 21-0 head start. UH's defense looked like they couldn't stop the UW running back and the O-line was allowing defenders to get all over Colt...

But, somehow, UH stopped UW when they had to and the O-line settled down and gave Colt enough time for the UH to get some scores and go in the half only down by 7 at 28-21.

In the 2nd half, the UH defense shutout UW and UH was able get 14 unanswered scores to pull ahead 35-28.

In the end, it came down to the defense making a clutch/amazing play to prevent UW from scoring the tying score from inside the 5 yd line. Unbelieve-ably UW got down to the goalline on two long passes.

NFL Predictor Week 13 Early Update

Early update posted for stats and predictions.

Recapping week 12, 10-6 ATS, overall ATS% is at 53% for the season.

On a side note, Univ of Hawaii is ranked at 12th in the BCS with it's 11-0 record, the only undefeated BCS team remaining. Now, if they can just focus on beating Univ of Washington this weekend...

Good Luck! Go Warriors!!!

NFL Predictor Week 10 Update Posted

ATS lines have been updated. Still a couple of games that are "off" the board.

Couple of good games this week:
  • Vikings at the Packers -6 may be a closer game though the Packers should win. Favre's passing vs Adrian Peterson's running. Should be a fun game to watch.
  • Colts at the Chargers +3.5 should also be a good game to watch, but with both coming off disappointing losses, which team will bounce back better.

Good Luck!

NFL Predictor Week 9 Early Update

Stats and predictions for the early update have been posted.

Game of the week:
  • Patriots -4.5 at the Colts - Colts are actually predicted to win the game by about 1.5 pts based on power ratings for what that's worth. Predicted score for over/under purposes is 33-26 Patriots so I would expect a high scoring game, making the over 56 possible.

Good Luck!

Comments by NFL Commish

Got this off the FootballGuys News Blogger and I can't believe what The Commish said about the Pro Bowl...

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed several topics when he visited the Arizona Cardinals. He talked about how cutting the preseason back a game or two has been discussed, but that those talks are only in the "infant stage". According to Goodell, setting a rookie salary cap is high on the list of things to do. "I believe players should be well compensated, but they should have to earn it," Goodell said. The draft, in order to make it more fan- and TV- friendly, will be changed. Teams will have 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes in the first round to make a choice, and later rounds will also be shortened, in a move that could be announced as early as next week's league meetings. There are changes being considered for the Pro Bowl, including playing the game in the off weekend between the conference championships and the Super Bowl and perhaps rotating it between cities. "I think (the Pro Bowl) is getting a little bit tired," Goodell said. "It's not a great way to celebrate our game (as is)."

I guess having it sell out year after year and having players show up to play in it is his definition of "getting a little bit tired"...

To even think about moving it to the off week between the conference championships and the Super Bowl?!? just boggles my mind! Who the h*ll will give a damn about the Pro Bowl with the Super Bowl yet to play.

Hey Commish! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

NFL Predictor Week 6 Early Update

Fantasy Football Week 5 Update

My CBS team took another blow today. With Addai and Henry both hurting, Henry might get himself suspended for the year?!?

QB: Garrard, David JAC
Roethlisberger, Ben PIT
RB: Addai, Joseph IND
Foster, DeShaun CAR
Henry, Travis DEN
White, LenDale TEN
WR: Davis, Andre HOU
Evans, Lee BUF
Houshmandzadeh, T.J. CIN
Jennings, Greg GB
Moss, Santana WAS
PK: Reed, Jeff PIT
Def:Kansas City KC
At least Lee Evans showed SOME life and scored some yardage points this past weekend.

CBS has a tough format with the roster so small. With only 14 players total and 9 starters, there are only 5 bench slots for your backups and it's tough to take a flyer on any potential sleepers. On the other hand, it's good since the waiver wire will always have some player worth picking up.

NFL Predictor Week 5 Final

Early final post this week.

To recap week 4, started off promising, but ended up at 8-6 ATS for the day. Down to 69% after three weeks ATS... :-)

With regard to fantasy football this year, it seems like a lot of big time players are getting dinged up in the first four weeks. Just of the top of my head the list includes the likes of Steven Jackson, Alex Smith, Joseph Addai, Rudi Johnson, Lawrence Maroney, Cadillac Williams, etc... with all sorts of knee, groin and shoulder injuries.

I gotta go check the waiver wires for some bye week replacements... :-)

Anyway, Good Luck!

Fantasy Football Wk3 Update

My Raffle team should win it's game this week (*knock on wood*), but my CBS team is losing again and with bye weeks coming up, I may be in trouble. Will need for my reserves to make a difference...

QB: Delhomme, Jake CAR
Roethlisberger, Ben PIT
RB: Addai, Joseph IND
Foster, DeShaun CAR
Henry, Travis DEN
White, LenDale TEN
WR: Evans, Lee BUF
Houshmandzadeh, T.J. CIN
Moss, Santana WAS
Toomer, Amani NYG
PK: Reed, Jeff PIT
Def:Carolina CAR
Houston HOU
Lee Evans is taking up a roster spot and is looking for more and more like a wasted draft pick. With Losman's injury, it ain't looking good for the Bills.

Fantasy Football Wk2 Update

So far my teams are doing ok. My CBS sportsline team is 1-1 and my Raffle team is 2-0. I also have a Yahoo team (1-1) that I joined just to have another team, but not too serious about that one.

I could have won my CBS FF game if QB Campbell was able to hit WR Santana Moss on that bomb at the end of the game. I lost that game by 6 and the TD + yardage would have won the game for me. Aarrgg... :-)

Need a WR for my CBS team and have been combing the waiver wire for anything, but not much available.

My Raffle team draft is starting to look better and better. This is a keeper league and teams can keep up to 8 players so there was not much available in the draft. I got Jamal Lewis, Chris Brown, and Lamont Jordan for RBs in the draft! Below is the current (updated) roster:

QB: Favre,Brett GB
Garrard,David JAX
RB: Brown,Chris TEN
Jordan,Lamont OAK
Lewis,Jamal CLE
McAllister,Deuce NO
Washington,Leon NYJ
Young, Selvin DEN
WR: Colston,Marques NO
Driver,Donald GB
Muhammad,Muhsin CHI
Owens,Terrell DAL
Porter,Jerry OAK
TE: Winslow Jr, Kellen CLE
PK: Folk, Nick DAL
Stover,Matt BAL
Def:Carolina CAR

UH (-17.5) at UNLV

UH will be travelling to Las Vegas later this week after returning to what I'll call their temporary training camp in Houston for practices and game prep.

Early "read" on this game is that UNLV is another team that wants to try and run the ball. They tried against Wisconsin (#5) team last week and couldn't get it going, but still kept the game close, losing 20-13 as a 4-TD underdog. They will be a 17 pt underdog to UH, but may be able to keep it closer if UH has problems with the UNLV running game.

UH 45-44 over Louisiana Tech

Offense: Tried to run the ball some and did get a good run to score it's first touchdown, but overall this part of the offense needs work. Colt didn't have his best game and was a little off on his passes, but he was good enough to bring the team back time and again. OL needs to work on protection as Colt was getting hit alot in this game. Much kudos to PK Dan Kelly who made the clutch, clutch 49 yd FG to put the game into overtime.

Defense: Struggled to stop the RBs of La Tech and passing of QB Champion in the first half. They did better second half and made some plays to get the ball back to the offense. In the OT, the defense came through to stop the gutsy, gutsy 2 pt conversion attempt. Phew.

UH 45 - 44 over Louisiana Tech (WOW!)

WOW!

What a game! What a big game for Hawaii.

PK Dan Kelly, after all his struggles, blasts a clutch 49 yd FG to put the game into overtime.

After UH scores a quick TD in it's overtime possesion, La Tech comes back to score a TD, then decides to go for TWO?!?

CB Gerard Lewis makes the CLUTCH pass deflection on the gutsy 2 pt conversion attempt to win it for Hawaii!!!

WOW!

Tuesday, September 4, 2007

UH (-28) at Louisiana Tech

UH travels to Rustin, La for the 5th meeting (UH leads 4-1) between these two teams. UH won 61-17 the last time they met.

Early "read" on this game is that LaTech will test the UH defense to see if they can stop the run. If not, the game could be closer than expected.

Saturday, September 1, 2007

UH 63 - 6 over Northern Colorado

Offense: Like I said in my previous post, the UH offense picked right up where it left off. Colt only played the first half completing 34-40 passes and 6 TDs with 400+ yds. Add on a kick off return and a punt return later for good measure.

Defense: The defense shutdown Northern Colorado keeping them on their side of the field most of the game. UH just seemed to be stronger than the NC players. Their hitting was crisp and made good one on one tackles. Not many missed tackles from what I saw.

My one worry during and after the game was the lack of rushing (Brennan was the leading rusher) to compliment the passing game. The shuffle passes were good to take the place of running plays, but I would have felt better if they showed that they could run the ball with Pilares or Farmer.

Former RB Nate Ilaoa had almost 1000 yards rushing last year and was good enough for opponents to respect the run. I just hope someone or the RBBC can prevent opponents from just keying on stopping the pass.

UH leaves wednesday for road games at Louisiana Tech and Nevada-Las Vegas.

Univ of Hawaii Kickoff!

UH kicks off it's 2007 season tomorrow night vs Northern Colorado (+56?!?) with a preseason 23rd ranking and high hopes.

The biggest change from last year, IMO, is the departure of Jerry Glanville as the defensive coordinator and the return of Greg McMackin to replace him. UH is going from a blitzing 3-4 to a more consistent and, hopefully, effective 4-3.

I think the offense should pickup where it left off last year. If the defense can be strong against the run and get the ball back to the offense, then Colt, his new haircut and UH should have a good season.

Worth keeping?

My keeper fantasy football team lost the only worthy keeper RB when Tiki Barber decided to retire, so I'm left with Deuce McAllister and/or DeShaun Foster as possible keepers.

I have three good WRs keepers (T Owens, M Colston, and D. Driver) and QB Brett Favre. I could also keep QB B. Leftwich as by backup QB, but don't know yet.

Should I keep RB DeShaun Foster or QB Byron Leftwich?

Update: End up keeping neither of them. Guess I gotta draft RBs early in the upcoming draft.

Football Guys subscription

Well, I paid the (approx.) $27 for a season of Football Guys information. Mostly did it for the Draft Dominator application and spreadsheet they have for the upcoming season with players projected stats.

Hopefully, the email updates and articles will prove useful as well.

Fantasy Impact NFL Moves So Far

In no particular order and looking only at offensive players, these are the ones that struck me as impact moves:

  • Ahman Green RB to HOU - if he's healthy
  • Joe Horn WR to ATL - if QB can get him the ball
  • Willis McGahee RB to BAL - if he's healthy, should have good chance for success...
  • Jamal Lewis RB to CLE - Does he have anything left?
  • Randy Moss WR to NE - can Belichick motivate him?
  • Donte Stallworth WR to NE - NE revamping their receiver corps?
  • Kyle Brady TE to NE - NE revamping their receiver corps?
  • Wes Welker WR to NE - should fit in well on this team.

For these player moves, I think we'll just have to wait and see.

  • Thomas Jones RB to NYJ - will they still be a "RB by committee" team?
  • Brad Johnson QB to DAL
  • Randy McMichael TE to STL - probably lowers his value...
  • Jeff Garcia QB to TB - Looking for a starter?
  • Jake Plummer QB to TB - Looking for a starter?
  • Reuben Droughns RB to NYG
  • Tatum Bell RB to DET
  • Travis Henry RB to DEN
  • Dominic Rhodes RB to OAK - could see a lot of playing time...

NFL Futures?

Am considering betting the Patriots to win the Super Bowl next season. Gotta look up the odds, but I don't expect any better than 7-2 or 4-1. May not be worth it...
