Wish I knew...

I wish I knew about these colleges before I went to college... It definitely would have been cool to be in one of these undergraduate programs...

Earthquake impact on (longterm) weather

I thought this was an interesting article. I did not realize that earthquakes shift the mass of the Earth (albeit a tiny fraction), can affect the axis of rotation and even change the length of the day. They can also affect the polar location of the North Pole as well as the Earth's magnetic field.

I wonder if anyone is studying what impact these changes are having, if any, on worldwide weather patterns?

In recent months, there seems to have been more severe weather out there, especially the snow storms in the east, as well as rains and flooding in various areas. I wonder if we are starting to see some of the changes to worldwide weather patterns?

Week 13 Monday Night

Just for fun, I think BAL +3 is the side to be on tonight...

From book National Football Lottery

Excerpts from the book National Football Lottery by Larry Merchant...

Pro Football Betting Generalizations:
  • Don't try to make money betting on a bad team.
  • Don't give more than 7 points.
  • Don't bet the underdog unless you think it can win the game.
  • Bet a clearly superior team any time it is favored by less than a touchdown.
  • Bet the team you like regardless of injuries, home field, etc. Those factors have already been included in the line.
  • Don't bet games in which the weather is likely to be a factor. You're guessing.
  • Bet convictions, not hunches. When in doubt, pass the game up.
  • Bet with your emotions, but don't be carried away.

Generalizations about bookies, betting and the points:

  • Don't be intimidated by the line. If you think a favorite isn't favored by enough or an underdog is underdogged by too much, bet it. The line is fallible.
  • Bet on the public (popular) teams early in the week, bet against them as late as possible.
